It began in an Asda car park...

It wasn’t the most dignified way to be spending a Saturday morning.
Having your innards scanned inside a trailer unit parked up in the local Asda car park, but needs must.

The usual button tapping ensued.
Then the screen was swung away from me.
Buttons were furiously tapped.
Tappity tap. Tap tap. Beep. Tap tap.
The radiologist’s brow was furrowed as he peered at the screen.
And then he went mute.
.A week later, a letter plopped on to the doormat.
"Dear Mrs Cook... We have found a mass graded O-RADS 5. You need to have an emergency hysterectomy in the next two weeks..."
The rest of the words swam before my eyes.
How could this be happening when I was the fittest I’d ever been in my life?
Heck, just a month ago, my annual health check had told me I was as fit as someone in their mid-thirties. According to my birth certificate I was a fair bit past forty-something.
I was sliced open – for the second time that year.
Stitched up.
Sent home to recover.
I had a choice.
Netflix? Disney+? Prime? Or a coaching qualification in Positive Psychology?
I chose Netflix and snacks.
Oh and the qualification too.
I wanted to continue owning the transformation I’d started two years earlier when my mum passed away before she’d even retired.
I wasn’t giving up. I want a long, happy, healthy retirement.
A year has passed.
I’m a qualified coach. I’m helping others.
Through being coached during the course, I’ve also gotten over my fear of smashing my nose up when running (another story for another day); my procrastination about my cake side-hustle; and I have a new day job.
And I’m now paying It forward, helping other ladies to thrive in the face of adversity.
Because I’m not ready to quit. And nor should you.
Positive change is an ongoing project.
Even if it starts in an Asda car park.
